Current Issues
ALDI Supermarket Development
Supermarket chain ALDI are proposing to build a new supermarket on the site of the former gas works in Marsh Lane, Stanmore. They have now submitted plans to the LB Harrow. This proposal we feel would have an effect on the local neighbourhood, environment, roads and properties.
Update 10/25: Permission has been refused for the Aldi supermarket on the grounds that the retail development would be in an out of town centre location where there is not an identified need,
Edgware Town Centre Redevelopment
Ballymore and TfL in conjunction with Barnet Council are proposing the Redevelopment of Edgware Town Centre, the Broad walk Shopping Centre, the covered bus station and garage with a Canary Wharf style development of 31 new buildings, including 25 Tower Blocks up to 29 storeys high and an underground bus depot, doubling the population of central Edgware. This will have a dramatic effect, destroy the suburban metro land character of the area and put strain on the local infrastructure.
Update 10/25:
Outline permission has been granted for the Broadwalk and Edgware Town Centre redevelopment by Barnet Council, with reserved matters including issues such as the underground bus garage still to be decided. pending details such as a satisfactory solution for the bus garage proposal. There is now also a separate plan for the Railway Hotel and adjacent land, including an extra 750 flats. It is being promoted as complementing and integrating with the wier Edgware Town Centre redevelopment. They have a website address for further information: www.edgwarerailwayhotel.co.uk
